What a gym website should include
In short
A gym website is a small set of pages that answers a visitor's first questions: where you are, when you are open, what it costs, what the place looks like and how to try it. It does not need to be big. It needs to be accurate, quick on a phone and easy to act on.
#Start with who visits and why
Most visitors arrive on a phone, often after searching for a gym near them or after seeing your name on a map listing. They want five answers in under a minute. If the site makes them hunt, they close it and call the next gym.
So build around those five answers, and add everything else only if you can keep it correct.
#The checklist, in order of importance
#1. Location, map and timings
Full address, a map link, nearest landmark, how to park, and opening hours including Sundays and holidays. Keep this identical to your Google Business Profile listing. Mismatched hours are one of the most common reasons visitors lose trust.
#2. How to reach you
A phone number that opens the dialler, and a WhatsApp link that opens a chat. Put both at the top of every page, not only on a contact page. Most Indian visitors prefer to message first.
#3. What you offer
Name the actual services: gym floor, personal training, group classes, whatever is true. Write one short paragraph for each, saying who it suits. Avoid generic claims like "world-class facilities".
#4. Plans and fees
Many gyms hide prices and lose visitors who assumed the worst. If you can, show your plans or a "starting from" figure, and say what is included. If you prefer not to publish prices, give a clear reason to enquire, such as "plans depend on your goal; message us for the right one". The thinking behind setting them is in the membership pricing guide.
#5. A way to try the gym
A visible "Book a free trial" or "Visit us" button, leading to a short form: name, phone, preferred time. Keep the form to those three fields. What happens after the form matters as much as the form, so read free trial follow-up before you launch it.
#6. Real photos
Your own floor, equipment, trainers and members who have agreed to appear. Stock photos of foreign gyms tell visitors nothing. Compress images so the page loads fast on mobile data.
#7. Trainers
A name, a role and a line on background for each coach. People join people.
#8. Honest proof
Real reviews, with the reviewer's permission, and a link to your Google reviews. Never write testimonials yourself or quote numbers you cannot back up.
#9. Rules and policies in plain language
Freeze, transfer and refund policy, in a few lines. Fewer disputes begin when the rules are visible before joining.
#10. Basics that people forget
- A page title and short description for each page, naming the gym and the locality.
- Your business name, address and phone written the same way everywhere.
- A privacy line near the form, saying how you will use the phone number.
- A mobile-first layout, tested on an actual phone.
#What to leave out
- Auto-playing music or video.
- Long mission statements.
- A blog you will not update.
- Prices that are out of date. A wrong price is worse than no price.
- Pop-ups on first load.
#Make the website feed your front desk
A website only helps if the enquiries it creates are answered. Decide who checks the form and the WhatsApp chat, and how fast they reply. Where enquiries come from and how to handle each source is in gym lead sources in India. The wider planning of a new gym business is in the guide to starting a gym.
#Where Helmr fits
Helmr, gym management software for India, is being built for running the gym itself: members, payments, attendance and enquiries. It is not a website tool. It is in early access, with a price per business plus an add-on per branch, published before launch, and it plans to accept enquiries from your website form through a lead webhook. If you would like to be among the first to use it, message us on WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
Does a small gym really need a website?
A one-page site with address, hours, plans, photos and a WhatsApp button is enough, and it gives you something accurate to point people to from your map listing and social profiles.
Should a gym website show prices?
Showing plans or a starting figure usually keeps more visitors than hiding them. If prices vary, say why and how to find out.
What is the most important button on a gym website?
Contact: a tap-to-call number and a WhatsApp chat link, visible on every page, followed by a trial booking button.
How many pages does a gym website need?
Home, plans, trainers, gallery, and contact are enough to begin. Add pages only when you can keep them current.
