eSSL vs ZKTeco for gyms: what to compare before you buy

In short

eSSL vs ZKTeco is the question most Indian gym owners ask before buying a biometric attendance machine. The two brands overlap heavily, so the real difference is in the exact model, the dealer and how it connects to software. This post compares them using the makers' own pages.

#First, the brands overlap

eSSL and ZKTeco sell similar devices: a fingerprint or face terminal on the wall, with a network cable or USB for getting punches out. Both are sold in India through dealers and resellers. Buying "an ESSL" or "a ZKTeco" tells you little. The model number tells you what you get.

What matters more than the logo:

  • How many fingerprints or faces it holds.
  • How it hands punches to software: pull, push or an SDK.
  • Whether it can drive a door lock.
  • Who services it in your city.

For how the three parts of a setup fit together, read the gym biometric attendance guide.

#What each maker's page says

These are pages I opened on 2 Nov 2026. Each model below is a different class of device, so this is not a like-for-like race.

All figures: vendor pages, checked 2 Nov 2026.

Three things stand out. Capacity on the F22 page is marked optional, so ask what ships by default. Push data is listed on both eSSL pages and not on the two ZKTeco pages above, which does not mean the devices cannot do it, so ask the dealer. And ZKTeco's global site shows the F22, so confirm your dealer sells the same variant in India.

#ZKTeco K40 and F22

Gym buyers often search for the ZKTeco K40 and F22 by name. I opened the F22 page above. For the K40 I could not open a working ZKTeco product page on 2 Nov 2026, so K40 capacity and connections are not published here. Dealer listings for the K40 disagree with each other on capacity, so get the datasheet for the exact variant, K40 or K40 Pro, in writing.

#What the devices cost

Neither maker publishes prices on the pages above. One IndiaMART seller listed the eSSL X990 at ₹15,580 per piece, excluding all taxes, on the marketplace page, checked 2 Nov 2026. Another IndiaMART listing for a ZKTeco device showed a price too, but the page did not confirm the model, so I have not used it. ZKTeco prices: not published. Ask each dealer to quote the device, GST, installation and software licence on separate lines.

#How to choose between them

  1. Start from your software. Ask which devices it reads and by what method. A device your software cannot reach is useless, whatever the brand.
  2. Count your members. Active members, staff and a year of churn. Compare that to the capacity for the exact model.
  3. Decide on the door. If a lock or turnstile is planned, check relay or Wiegand on the page and get an installer.
  4. Check service. Who comes when the unit fails, and how fast? A local dealer with a spare unit beats a lower price.
  5. Test at peak hour. Ask for a demo unit or a return window and try your sweatiest regulars.

For more models, see the list of seven machines, and for one model in depth, the eSSL X990 in a gym. If face or QR appeals more than fingerprint, read fingerprint, face or QR.

#Questions to ask the dealer

  • Is this the India variant, and what is the warranty?
  • What is the default capacity, and what is the optional capacity?
  • Does it push punches, or must software pull them? Does it need a PC at my gym?
  • Is there an SDK, and is it free to use?
  • How do I copy enrolment to a replacement unit?

Do not accept a claim that no computer is needed without hearing exactly how punches reach the internet.

#Where Helmr fits

Helmr, gym management software for India, is being built to connect ESSL and ZKTeco devices through a bridge. Fingerprint templates stay on the device, QR check-in is always an alternative, and Helmr is in early access. If you would like to be among the first to use it, message us on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

Is eSSL or ZKTeco better for a gym?

Neither brand wins on its own. Compare the exact models on capacity, how they connect to your software, door control and local service. Test one at peak hour before buying several.

Do eSSL and ZKTeco publish prices?

Not on the product pages I opened on 2 Nov 2026. One IndiaMART seller listed the eSSL X990 at ₹15,580 per piece excluding taxes, checked 2 Nov 2026. Ask dealers for written quotes.

Can software work with both brands?

Often yes, through push data, a network connection or an SDK. It depends on the software and the model, so ask the vendor to name the exact devices it reads.

What is the ZKTeco K40?

It is a fingerprint attendance terminal that dealers sell in India. I could not open a ZKTeco product page for it on 2 Nov 2026, so its capacity is not published here. Ask for the datasheet of the exact variant.
